Astral Mirror
A downloadable game for Windows
Astral Mirror is the videogame I created along three more teammates for the Alicante IX Game Jam.
It is a game about freerunning with movement mechanics like double jump or dashing through the air.
The game features three levels with several different paths to complete, each with different difficulty and easyness.
The theme for the Jam was Descartes’ philosophy, so we decided to use this to create the astral plane within the game world.
This plane can be freely accessed by the player by pressing a key. Within the astral plane, the player can see some hints on routes to go, although there is a catch. The players abilities to double-jump and dash consume an energy bar that refills over time. If the player enters the astral plane however, the bar will deplete over time instead, so it’s harder to use skills within the astral plane.
This is made to make the players choose their play style and difficulty freely and dynamically: they can go about the levels slowly, safely and using the astral plane, or they can go hardcore and master the movement to speed through the levels using their autorefilling energy all the time.
The game is currently a work in progress and more levels will be coming in the near future.
